Brand strategy, visual identity, logo design, volunteer uniforms, print and digital assets for community engagement and awareness.

the client

Community Kitchen is a grassroots initiative led by a passionate team of local volunteers in Gloucester City Centre. Offering free hot meals to anyone in need, the kitchen is rooted in values of inclusivity, dignity, and compassion. Entirely non-religious and volunteer-run, Community Kitchen champions sustainability by using surplus food wherever possible and prioritises flexibility through both dine-in and takeaway options. At its heart, the kitchen exists to serve the community - open to all, with no strings attached.

the brief

Just starting up as a CIC, Community Kitchen approached me to develop a warm, accessible visual identity that could support their growing presence while staying true to their non-professional, volunteer-only roots. The branding needed to reflect their commitment to community care, sustainability, and hospitality all the while remaining adaptable and practical for everyday use. From uniforms to online presence & applying for funding, the visuals had to be cohesive and recognisable, helping to build trust, encourage engagement, and support future partnerships and fundraising efforts.

the approach

Our goal was to create a brand that visually reflects the generosity and warmth of the kitchen’s mission. Through collaborative discovery workshops and visual research, we defined a tone that balances approachability with a sense of purpose. The design strategy centred on key brand values: welcoming, kind, accessible, and community-powered.

Taking inspiration from bringing a variety of ingredients together, kitchen warmth, and natural textures associated with sustainability and nourishment. The design system created is modern and inclusive - built to evolve alongside the organisation while staying instantly recognisable across mediums.
